Questionnaire Analysis

From doing the questionnaire it reassured me on my target audience.
As seen by the first question it indicated a more of a female participations, which will require a more feminine approach to my video, such as the costume I may use, make-up that will appeal to a female
audience likewise will appeal to men audience as having it a sense of the theory 'Male Gaze'
will bring in a male audience as well as females.

It also showed that people fell into the 16-24 and 25-34 cateorgy which makes the audience
very young, this is beneficial as myself falling into the 16-24 cateorgy I will be able to
make my video young and still have elements that would appeal to an even wider audience. From the questionnaire, it also showed that people watch music channels often; this allowed me to analyse the top charted videos out there, which I could potentially incorporate the style of the video I will create.

It showed people were watching music videos on YouTube, which meant when I finish creating my video, I will put it on youtube to see how many hits it could get.

40% of the participants said they like indie music which was essential to me as my artist is indie
artist, so from this means my video will reach my target audience as they are already fans
of the style of the music.

Also 75% said they like indie music which means my video and chosen artist is an effective way in
captivating a audience as it highlights my target audience already
like this particular filed of music.

80% of the participants said they like the artist 'Lana Del Rey'
this was vital for me as she is my chosen artist so it was essential my target audience
like her as a artist.

30% said they liked the song 'Born to die' and 30% liked the song 'video games'
these two song are also my favourite and the song I  am doing 'serial killer' creates
the same impact of mystery thrill which most of her song do.

50% said they like storylines in video, this was helpful as my video although conceptual it
creates a storyline in a sense, but it allows the audience to create their own.

Likewise 55% said they would want to see storyline/narrative in a video of their choice, which
goes in favour of what I doing.

Overall from the questionnaire allowed to pick a young target audience, and a more female based audience, however I still believe my music video will be able to reach out to a wide audience as my concept is very simple and I believe my artist Lana Del Rey has a wide audience which will then allow me to keep it conventional.

Questionnaire for Music Video

Doing a questionnaire was essential as it allowed me to think analitically in order for my media music video to appeal to the target audience.

I believe by creating a questionnaire and allocating it to different age groups and genders allowed me to proceed a very reliable and valid survey.

This was also significant because it allowed me to think of the key conventions of music as a whole which I will need to consider, and by using the artist Lana Del Rey and getting good feedback from members  indicated a wide variety of people like this chosen artist.

Location Report

Location Photo's

These photo's below are images which will I will be using throughout the music videos.
The reason why I chose an outdoor setting is it links in with the aim I want for my video. As making it mysterious which goes hand in hand with the song title being 'Serial Killer' creates a suspence in which I want my target audience to question about. Also the artist normally using outside settings for her videos, so staying true to the artist is very vital, as I would want it to still look as though she would use this particular setting.

Through the mise en scene, it allows to portray the image on 'mysterious' as the woods create a cold thrill to it.
I really like how this image captivated the dark essence of the woods, I will be taking up tilt shots
to show this in my video, as it creates that dark atmosphere.

This image creates an illusion that it is deep in the woods, which is really striking to look at,
I also believe this fits in with the theme of mystery, as it creates a sense of an unknown thrill
of things.
When shooting my video, I will get my artist to walk through the woods, such seen in the image,
walking through it with different range of shots will create an impact.
I'm going to have many shots of Chisara walking through pass the trees and interacting with them in a sense,
likewise in leona lewis video - run. It creates a thrill in which I want to achieve.

This captivates the essence of suspense as the setting seems very dark and moody which I hope to capture.

Inspiration's behind why i chose my location

The images above are from Leona Lewis 'Run' this video has been an inspiration of mine from the beginning of my research as I have spoke about this particular video in my post 'inspirations for serial killer'. I really like the setting, it being in the woods creates a darkness to the video, which is one of the reason I chose my location to create the same thrill. It also goes well by have just one central character.

The images above are from the video 'Featherstone' by The Paper Kites this was another inspiration that allowed me to research into my chosen location. I really like how the video much like 'Run' is just presented in the same location. This is what I am going to do, I believe by using just the one location will keep the video very simple, which is something I hope to achieve. I also believe by the location being in the woods, rather than a room creates an anticipation  of what could happen, what can appear etc, which will still keep the audience intrigued even though it is just in one location.

The images above are from Corinne bailey 'put your records' although this video was not based in the woods, it is still outdoors, and more or less in a field. I really like the freeness of this video, and the location is very free, I feel although I picked the woods, it still has a sense of freeness which is why this particular video inspired me.

Key Features of Indie music

Indie pop
is a genre of alternative rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s, with its roots in Scottish post-punk bands on the Postcard Records label in the early '80s (Josef K and Orange Juice) and the dominant UK independent band of the mid-'80s, The Smiths. Indie pop was inspired by punk's DIY ethic and related ideologies, and it generated a thriving fanzine, label, and club and gig circuit. Indie pop differs from indie rock to the extent that it is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free.

The term "indie" had been used for some time to describe artists on independent labels (and the labels themselves), but the key moment in the naming of "indie pop" as a genre was the release of NME's C86 tape in 1986. The compilation featured, among other artists, Primal Scream, The Pastels, and The Wedding Present, and "indie" quickly became shorthand for a genre whose defining conventions were identified as jangling guitars, a love of '60s pop, and melodic power pop song structures (the genre was initially dubbed "C86" after the tape itself).

In the mid to late '80s, indie pop was criticized for its associations with so-called "shambling" (a John Peel-coined description celebrating the self-conscious primitive approach of some of the music) and underachievement, but the C86 indie pop scene is now recognized as a pivotal moment for independent music in the UK,as is recognized in the subtitle of that compilation's 2006 extended reissue: CD86: 48 Tracks from the Birth of Indie Pop. Indie pop continues to have a strong following and inspire musicians, not just in the UK but around the world, with new bands, labels and clubs devoted to the sound.

Casting Notes With Photo's

Chisara Duru

Age: 17

Height: 5'7

Hair:Short/ Dark brown

Eye Colour: Hazel/Green

Skin Tone: Fair skin

The reason why I chose Chisara for my Media video is because she is conventionally attractive likewise the artist which will bring in an audience. Also because my video is creating a mystery with the character, as she has striking eyes, having different close ups will enhance this.

Also Chisara has done many modelling shoots in the past so she has experienced being in the camera and will be comfortable and natural which will mean I will have no issues whilst filming her. She has also previously been in my media group, and is still a current media student, which means she will know the importance of the different shots, which will make the whole process run smoothly.

I took this particular image which shows she is an attractive young lady which is very important to have in videos, as it will appeal to the both sexes.
I took this particular image as it captivates to an audience the mystery behind her eyes, as she has striking coloured eyes which will draw the audience in which is why I am using Chisara.

The side angle shows her bone structure which is very striking, which is why i chose this particular person with beautiful bone strucutre it will captivate the lighting more.

Music Treatment

Music treatment for Lana Del Rey –Serial Killer

For this song I want to keep it mostly conceptual,  as the lyrics speak for itself are very strong and sinister, which is what ultimately drew me to this song. My interpretation of the song is based on a an obssesive love for someone; for example lines like ‘’love you just a little too much’’ creates the mystery which I’ve interpreted this song, as it is as if Lana Del Rey essentially is a stalker who is in so much love with this man that if he was to get into a relationship with someone else, she will want to kill him because she’s the only one who can have him . The title within its self creates a mystery ‘’Serial Killer’’ has an impact as serial killers intentions are not rational or which is why I view the video in this way.

Initially I wanted to show a relationship which the boy cheats on her and she wants to plot a plan of revenge and kill him. However with this said I felt the words are so strong I wouldn’t need to have a narrative video to convey this, keeping the simplicity will allow the audience to create their own interpretation, this I believe will draw the audience in. Also the artist herself video's are very simplistic which allows the audience to create their own message from it, they also create a vintage thrill which I would like to show to highlight the style of this artist, so I would want to use some different shots with a old film look which is seen in video's such as 'Video Games'.
My concept is just having one person in the video, inspiration for this was behind Jessie J video ‘Who You Are’ Leona Lewis ‘Run’ and Demi Lovato ‘Skyscraper’. These videos were very successful and create an impact as the song itself had a powerful message. From this I like the idea of how Leona Lewis being in the woods, which I took the idea of this, shooting my video in the woods, would create the mystery which it has. And how in all three videos the different variations of close up shots, performance and narrative based create such an impact.

Having extreme close ups of the eyes and mouth will enhance the intensity of the words within the song, doing this keeps the impact of the mystery. I initially wanted to have the video black and white which will indicate the mystery, but I believe i can create a better impact by having different filters such as red to keep the intensity of the video.

By having my actor walking through the woods creates the thrill to it and keeps the powerfulness of the song, allowing the audience interprate the video in their own way. The reason I would want to do this is because this particular artist hasn’t done a full concept video, she normally has some type of narrative but stripping it down allowing the audience to view it in their way somehow creates the videos as everyone’s. It is not just the artists’ video its everyone’s, and just like an art piece everyone has their own interruption of the video allowing everyone to see it in their view, which will bring in more audience.

Feedback From Some Members of My Target Audience About Lana Del Rey

This video below illustrate feedback from some members of my target audience about my chosen artist Lana Del Rey.

I believe this was a great way to find out what members think about Lana Del Rey and the song 'Serial Killer'.

Also this has help me to think in more depth for the concept, for my music video as some comments of the artist and the song were "Dark", "Mysterious", "In the woods" etc.

Overall from receiving feedback from some members allowed me to consider their interpretation of the song, etc and come of with my music treatment and overall vision for my music video.
