About The Song

I Miss You  was written by Knowles, Frank Ocean and Shea Taylor while production was handled by Knowles and Taylor. The song's development was motivated the fact that Knowles wanted to focus on songs being classics, songs that would last, and songs that she could sing when she becomes old. A mid-paced R&B ballad, "I Miss You" is influenced by the ballads of the 1980s. Its instrumentation consists essentially of synthesizers and keyboards. "I Miss You" finds Knowles, as the protagonist, thinking deeply over her relationship with her love interest from whom she parted; however, she still pines for him and feels self-conscious for doing so.

"I Miss You" was generally well-received by music critics who complimented its very sparse production as well as its aurally remarkable 1980s influence. Some of them also described the song as a "haunting" ballad and called it the highlight of the record. Critics also complimented how Knowles' vocals keep on alternating from desperate and calm throughout the song, and highlighted the vulnerability in her voice. Following the release of 4 in early July 2011, "I Miss You" charted at number 184 on the UK Singles Chart and at number 34 on the South Korea Gaon International Singles Chart, based on downloads alone. The song was part of Knowles' set list for her 4 Intimate Nights with Beyoncé, held in Roseland Ballroom, New York City in August 2011.

Why I Chose This Song
I chose this song because firstly I am a huge fan of the artist. I also believe this song could relate to many people by it being entitled "I Miss You" already indicates someone who may miss their ex etc. Which is why I believe it could reach out to a wide range of an audience as many songs does.

Beyonce's Music Inspirations
Beyoncé has cited various artists who have influenced her musical style. She grew up listening to songs of Anita Baker and Luther Vandross, the latter of whom she eventually collaborated with, but often credits Michael Jackson as the reason why she does music and her hero. She also was exposed to the jazz music of Rachelle Ferrell, after singing Ferrell's songs during her voice lessons. Knowles cites influences from American artists Tina Turner, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Housto, Janet Jackson, Selena, Mary J. Blige, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey and the Colombian singer Shakira.

About Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey, is an American singer and songwriter. Del Rey initially began performing in clubs in New York City at age 18, and signed her first recording contract when she was 21 years old with 5 Points Records, releasing her first digital album Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant in January 2010. Del Rey bought herself out of her contract with 5 Points Records in April 2010 and signed to Stranger Records to release her debut single "Video Games" in June 2011.

A music video created by Del Rey for the song was posted on YouTube in August 2011 and became a viral internet hit.
Del Rey then signed a joint deal with Interscope and Polydor in collaboration with Stranger Records in July 2011, and released her second studio album Born to Die in January 2012.

A Paradise Edition reissue of Born to Die, featuring nine new tracks, became available for preorder in September of 2012, with the official release planned for November of that year.

Del Rey's music has been noted for its cinematic sound and its references to various aspects of pop culture, particularly that of the 1950s and '60s Americana. The singer has described herself as a "self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra". Del Rey is also signed to NEXT Model Management.

About The Song

Three unreleased tracks surfaced on YouTube recently, and they’re each snapshots of the singer in three very different points in her career. The first song, “Serial Killer,” could have been a bonus track on Born To Die, all high drama, canned strings and beats that could have been on a rap song. “Ooh Baby,” is uncharacteristically funky and kind of great, and the cheeky “Summer of Sam” would have probably been better off buried deep in the interwebs, but here you have it.

Serial Killer - Is one of Lana Del Rey's unrealsed songs, it is very dark as she talks about being a "socialpath.... Because I love you just a little too much". Thsis indicates how she may be in a obessive relationship.

The song is also daunting, and you get the sense of mystery which is seen through many of her songs such as 'Summertime Sadness' 'Carmen' and so forth.

Why I Chose This Song
Despite the song being unrealised meaning it doesn't have much publicity on it, I believe it is a very good song. I like the mystery behind the lyrics, I also like how it creates a story, and if I chose this song I would want to create a quite concept base video which will allow the audience to come up with there own interpretation of the song.

Lana Del Rey's Music Inspirations

The 25-year-old from Lake Placid, New York, has rocketed to indie fame. However, it is Del Rey’s attention-grabbing videos that truly encapsulate her self-described Lolita-got-lost-in-the-hood appeal.

Edited by Del Rey using iMovie, they feature spliced clips from old films and cartoons and images of fast cars interspersed with her own seductive webcam shots, in which she’s dolled-up like a street-savvy femme fatale with bombshell hair and bling jewelry.

(“I lived in the Bronx for three years,” she explains. “We liked lots of gold, and we liked it big.”) For some—namely, a few malcontent music bloggers who have taken issue with both the size of her fantastic pout and the fact that she changed her name from the far less exotic Lizzy Grant—her image is just too cool to be real. “I don’t understand it. Controversy is the last thing I expected from this project,” she says over the phone, with a long-lash wink—or so one would imagine, coming from a girl who playfully sings about hitting boys in the back of the head with a gun.
Birdy - I'll Never Forget You

  • Indie Folk
  • From album 'Birdy'
Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s from singer/songwriters in the indie rock community showing heavy influences from folk music scenes of the 50s, 60s and early 70s, country music, and indie rock.
    About Birdy

Jasmine van den Bogaerde (born 15 May 1996), also known by her stage name Birdy, is a British musician. She won the music competition Open Mic UK in 2008, at the age of 12. Her version of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" was successful, peaking inside the top twenty of the charts in her native United Kingdom and in some other European territories and peaked at number 1 in Australia. Her eponymous debut album Birdy was released on 7 November 2011.

In 2009, Birdy performed live on piano for BBC Radio 3's Pianothon in London.

In January 2011, at the age of 14, Birdy released a cover version of Bon Iver's song "Skinny Love." The song became her first hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at 17.

The single was chosen as "Record of The Week" by UK radio DJ Fearne Cotton, resulting in it being added to BBC Radio 1's B‑list playlist as soon as it was released in March 2011. The official music video for the song was directed by Sophie Muller. The song was also featured on The Vampire Diaries episode "The Sun Also Rises", which aired on 5 May 2011. "Skinny Love" peaked at number 1 in the Netherlands.

Skinny Love was released on 30 January 2011 as the first single from the album, which was a cover of a song by American indie folk band Bon Iver. The cover reached a peak of number seventeen on the UK Singles Chart.

"Shelter" was released as the second single from the album on 3 June 2011. The song covers a track by English indie pop group The xx and peaked at number fifty in the UK.

"People Help the People" was released as the album's third single on 28 October 2011. The song is a cover of the song of the same name by English indie rock band Cherry Ghost and peaked at number thirty-three in the UK.

"1901" was released in the UK on 9 March 2012 as the album's fourth single. It is a cover of the song by French indie rock band Phoenix and peaked at number seventy-two in the UK.

    About The Song
I'll Never Forget You - The whole idea of Birdy sounds like a transparent attempt to court a more credible audience, but thanks to her haunting tones and a tasteful yet compelling production, it impressively avoids being the try-hard affair you'd expect

    Why I Chose This Song
I really like the song I'll Never Forget You as it is very peaceful. Likewise the Beyonce song, I believe this song could relate to a lot of people, which will bring in a high target audience from a wide range of ages.

    Birdy's Music Inspirations
She got ‘noticed’ from her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”, which is a fabulous song regardless of who sings it. But the song that personally made me swoon over her, is her version of ‘People help the People’. Nothing could be more symbolic of what our generation is going through on Earth. We’re finally learning that it’s not getting us anywhere being selfish and greedy. We’d get so much further as a whole, if we learn to love each other and work together.
