Scarlett Cole: Comfort Gathoni 

This is our main character. The audience will view this character, first of all, when she is 16 and pregnant. She will be the mother of Raymond, the child who will haunt her in her dreams as she believes he is dead; she later then meets him in the orphanage, without knowing its her actual son. This will create a dramatic irony as the audience will be aware its her son but she wont.

Scarlett's character is very vulrable, but tries to keep peace with her evil mother, she is sweet and still very innocent and wants to do the best for her child. We want the audience to really emphasise with her. Playing this character will be Comfort Gathoni.

The main reason why we selected Comfort Gathoni is because she’s a drama student. I am also a drama student so i've been able to see her work of acting, which is very effective. She will be able to do this role because she has done roles like this in drama productions before hand. She is very good at what she does and she will be able to get the characterisation of the character, Scarlett.

Florence cole: Jessica Ansah

This is another main character in this film. This is Scarlett Cole’s mother. If Scarlett Cole was the protagonist, Florence Cole would be the antagonist. She did not approve of Scarlett’s decision to keep her baby when she found out she was pregnant as she has a very old fashioned mind set of teenage pregnancies. She is the one who mysteriously tells her daughter that her baby is dead.

Florence's character is very evil, she is old fashioned so when she found out her daughter was pregnant she was very ashamed as she felt her family would be look upon. Jessica Ansah will be playing the role of Florence Cole.

The reason why we have selected Jessica Ansah is because she is also a drama student and is capable of doing the role of an old woman,  as she has taken roles like this in the past. She has had the potential to do any of these roles before hand.

inspiration films for our thriller movie.

we looked at 'The Others' as the woman in this film is unstable likewise our character Scarlett.
this film also has a supernatural element which is what we are going for in our movie. With the haunting of something which we are showing in our opening inspired me, to think how we should show this

Looking at the movie 'The Unborn' gave me the inspiration of our film; this has many elements which we would want to interpret in our opening. As this gives a supernatural thrill and has a daunting son likewise what happens in our film script. With the anticipation and tension within the music is what we would want for ours to give that suspicion thrill to it.

Inspiration for our score for different scenes.

This sound inspires our score as it represents for when the girl Scarlett awaits for her pregnacy test and comes to realisation that she is pregnant.

This sound represents when the mum goes in to the girls room and takes she takes the baby

The uses of the heart beat sound indicates the opening scene when the mother finds out the daugher is pregnant.

The use of the baby crying noise represents the final scene when the daughter is in the babies room and can hear noises as the supernatural starts

The Unspoken Truth (Shooting Script)

This shooting script shows the audience of what we are going to do in the two minutes opening at particular times.

Doing this was very helpful as it helped reinforce what my group will be doing at certain scenes and what type of scene we would be doing.

Production company logo

This is the company logo me and my group came up with, with the inspiration of are first letters of each of our name "S.M.C" worked out well as it both catchy and eye catching for our audience.

We believed that our logo will be memorable by the bright colour of yellow; with showing some other students they also said it was very memorable and eye catching which is good to hear as it is very effective for a company to have a logo that draws the audience in.

By doing a mood board help me for inspiration of how my groups movie "the unspoken truth" would be like. Using various images to create spookiness etc shows the fact we are creating a supernatural/psychophysical thriller movie. 

My main inspiration was from paranormal activities which is a great example of a supernatural thriller; as in our opening we would use key events like paranormal; also by doing the mood board was a great tool that helped me and my group get a better understanding of what type of film we want to portray

Storyboard

By doing a storyboard illustrated what my groups first 2 minute opening scene was going to be. This helped me understand how much seconds we will spend on a particular scene, and the typical codes and conventions which we will use to show its a thriller.

This was an effective way to see the the written concept of what we will actually film; and helped us pick particular moments of close ups, up-tilts etc for our shots. And most importantly how much seconds for each shots, and what type of non-genetic music we would play and key moments. 

Film treatment

The type of thriller movie me and and group are doing is, supernatural/psychological. Our movie is called "the unspoken truth" and is about a young girl who gets pregnant and has a very angry mother. The young girls mother then takes the baby to an orphanage but tells her that the baby has died from a "cot death".

The girl then becomes an emotional wreck and starts hearing baby crying noises at night and feels like she can hear/feel her baby at times. When the young girl gets older she then started work at the same orphanage her baby got sent to. Her son realise who she because of her name and starts his revenge following her every footstep and watching over her at night.

Once her son followed her home where he witnesses a conversation where he realises it was in fact it was his grandmother that sent him away. He then starts plotting a plan for his grandmother to shows his mother what an evil woman she really is; but does he manage to succeed in revealing the truth?...............................................

Results on questionnaire

 

 

By doing this questionnaire it showed that females were the ones who mostly did the questionnaire; and the average age that completed this were 16-18 & 18-24. Moving on, all the people that completed this questionnaire watch thrillers which was good as we are creating a thriller opening; and the average response on watching thriller movie's was "most of the time" which was a effective response as it showed thriller movie's are quiet popular.

By doing this questionnaire I found the most popular types of thriller movie's people watched were psychophysical, paranoid and supernatural; I also found that the peoples favourite thrillers were paranormal activities, phone-booth & dark night. Also i found that people enjoyed the mystery for thriller genres and that the surprising twist in thrillers appeal the audience.

Overall by doing this questionnaire helped me decide what type of thriller movie me and my group will create; we took the best responses and combined it with what we want to create. Also it really helped us know what target audience etc we want to reach out to; so by doing this task was very beneficial as a whole

Thriller movie research

By researching thriller movie's on prezi was an exciting task. As it was my first time using prezi it was very interesting in doing so. My research explains the different types of thriller movie's and the common codes and conventions in them.

This also helped me think of idea's for the type of thriller movie my group want to create; and what type of codes and conventions we would commonly be using in our movie.

I also explained in depth one type of a thriller movie which is the one my group potentially could use for our thriller movie; hope you enjoy my research.

Preliminary Task done by Shaniqua, Chisara and I

This video is evidence of the preliminary task. This task was very exciting; as being one of the ones filmed. As a group we took different turns editing our footage; when I was editing at first it was difficult but by playing around with it I then knew how to use it. This task was good preparation for me and other students as it gave us an idea of what we have to do when making out thriller opening.

I felt my group produced a very strong video; our strongest point in the in the video was the opening of the door. This was very slick and although in the process of editing it took us some time to make it slick; we got there in the end.

Also throughout the video it was very steady and had good focus; our weakest part was the dialogue we more time we could of made it more interesting; overall this task was very beneficial as it gave us a insight of what we will have to do for our thriller.
